Judicial review case against State COVID powers heard in secret behind locked iron gates
We had an appointment at the Four Courts this morning to collect the judgment of Ms Justice Gearty in our case against NUI Galway.
Whilst there we were shocked to see that the hearing of the (unrelated) legal challenge against the Irish Government’s sweeping COVID powers is essentially being heard in secret behind locked iron gates.
Public barred from entry
Dozens of police lined the Four Courts area and Chancery Place, using barricades to prevent the public from accessing the court room.
This is an extraordinary breach of the fundamental principle of open justice and needs to be publicised. We are following these serious developments closely and would strongly encourage the public to do likewise.
